Architect – China/Asia (International)
The Washington DC office of Leo A Daly, a leader in the Architecture, Planning, Engineering and Interior Design Industry, is seeking an experienced Project Architect for its China and Asia projects. This Beijing- based, Mandarin speaking Architect will function in a project support role for a variety of project types, including Master Planning and architectural design of mixed use developments containing 100-300m office/hotel/residential towers over multi-story commercial podiums and single office towers.
Candidate will be required to:
· Be the Washington DC office’s person “on the ground” coordinating with Clients in the execution of the projects, initiating and responding to day to day communication with Clients and the WDC office, attending meetings with Clients, LDIs, Local Planning Authorities, etc.
· Travel with and support WDC Design Director, Market Sector Leader (MSL) and other staff when they travel to China.
· Provide translation between Chinese and English, both written and verbal.
· Provide Architectural Design and Graphic support during project charettes and in preparation for presentations and deliverables.
· Work with MSL and Project Managers in determining scope, deliverables, and schedule of projects for proposal generation and project execution;
· Be responsible for data gathering, and maintenance of in-house project information for defined market and representative samples of data for client presentations.
· Attend occasional business development meetings with Regional Directors to demonstrate our on the ground presence.
Qualifications:
· Be fluent in both Mandarin and English in spoken and written form.
· Registered Architect
· Experience working with US/European/Australian firms inside and outside of China
· Experience working for or with Chinese LDIs
7 to 10 years of progressively advanced work experience with Architectural firms on large scale, multi-function, international projects in and/or out of China.
· Excellent communication skills (oral, written, graphic)
· Proficiency with AutoCAD, SketchUp, Photoshop and other Architectural and Graphic Design software packages.
· Proficient with Microsoft Office and other similar business software (Knowledge of Deltek Vision a plus)
· Experience with fee proposals, negotiations and contract administration a plus
· Be able to travel to US on short notice and remain in the States for up to two weeks at a time.
· Must be comfortable in situations where responsiveness, resourcefulness, flexibility and diplomacy, grace, respect and professionalism are necessary to satisfy Clients.
· Understand the Architectural business of delivering excellent high quality work, quickly.
· Have excellent client management, customer service, and writing, verbal and presentation skills.
· Be available for late hour and early morning conference calls and other interactions due to time zone differences.
· Have ability to successfully handle multiple assignments simultaneously.
A successful candidate will develop and maintain a network of vendors, suppliers, consultants, etc., who work in the assigned market who can serve as sources of project leads. They will also collect and disseminate data indicating current market design and project delivery trends in China.
This position is a direct report to the Office Director of Operations, but is expected to work collaboratively with the Design Director, Market Sector Leader, International Project Managers and Marketing Coordinators.

Market Sector Leader - International
The Washington DC office of Leo A Daly, a leader in the Architecture, Planning, Engineering and Interior Design Industry, is seeking a Senior–level individual for its China and Asia pursuits. This WDC based, Mandarin speaking Registered Architect will function as the primary point of contact for the International Business Development Team based in China to the WDC office. This individual will be empowered to negotiate and secure contracts for a variety of project types, including Master Planning and architectural design of mixed use developments containing 100-300m office/hotel/residential towers over multi-story commercial podiums, which have been identified and initiated by the International Business Development Team
Candidate will be required to:
· Travel to and throughout China on as short as 24 hour notice and remain in-country for up to several weeks at a time.
· Inform and educate WDC based senior office leadership about business development opportunities identified by International BD Team.
· Directly respond to Regional BD Director’s requests for Qualifications, Proposals and background information.
· Lead and have primary responsibility for verifying information, obtaining background “intelligence” and factual documentation, in order to assist in performing due diligence (Go/NoGo) process, make recommendations based on industry research and analysis and develop responses to Request for Proposals and Competition Tenders.
· Work with DC based Project Managers in evaluating scope, complexity, and scheduling requirements of projects; Validate work planning strategies to ensure successful project execution.
· Coordinate preparation of Qualification packages with assistance from office’s marketing coordinators.
· Populate and maintain a central database with competition and project documentation, fees and qualification materials.
· Coordinate, through WDC office Director of Operations, as needed office resources to support requests for subject matter expertise, presentations, speaking and writing engagements, and interviews as may be requested by the Region and approved by the Office Managing Principal.
· Participate in recurring Regional Business Development opportunity calls and summit meetings.
· Participate in recurring International Operations calls and meetings.
Qualifications
· Registered Architect
· Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from an accredited college or university (Master’s preferred)
· 15 to 20 years of progressively advanced work experience with US/European/Australian Architectural firms
· At least 5 years of experience as a Project Manager for large scale, multi-function, international projects in China.
· Fluent in verbal and written English and Mandarin
· Experience negotiating and securing multi-million dollar contracts
· Excellent communication skills (oral, written, graphic)
· Experience working with or for Chinese LDIs.
· Proficient with Microsoft Office and other similar business software (Knowledge of Deltek Vision a plus)
· Must be comfortable in situations where responsiveness, resourcefulness, flexibility and diplomacy, grace, respect and professionalism are necessary to satisfy Clients.
· Understand the Architectural business of delivering excellent high quality work, quickly and within the financial success parameters established annually by the Company.
· Have experience in personally preparing fee proposals, contracts and ongoing daily client correspondence.
· Possess a Business Development mind set, a “closer” mentality and a “desire to excel” persona.
· Be able to communicate and coordinate actions across geographical locations
· Have excellent client management, customer service orientation, and writing, verbal and presentation skills.
· Be available for late hour and early morning conference calls and other overseas interactions due to time zone differences.
· Have ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously.
A successful candidate will develop and maintain a network of vendors, suppliers, consultant, etc., who work in the assigned market who can serve as sources of project leads. They will also collect data indicating current market trends in China. The candidate should also possess strong marketing skills, fiscal responsibility, team management, and leadership skills.
This position is a direct report to the Office Managing Principal, but is expected to work collaboratively with the Office Director of Operations, Design Director, International Project Managers and Marketing Coordinators.
