CHINA SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORTATION CENTER Program Specialist Job Opening The China Sustainable Transportation Center (CSTC) is a non-profit organization registered in Chaoyang District, Beijing. CSTC is funded by The Energy Foundation’s China Sustainable Energy Program (CSEP) under its China Sustainable Cities Program. CSTC provides technical assistance to local projects working on promoting sustainable urban development and sustainable urban transportation systems. CSTC helps build local capacity for sustainable development by bridging international best practice and local knowledge. We are seeking one responsible, energetic, and highly professional individual for the position of Urban Planner. Senior Program Specialist (Urban Planner) ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES · handles urban planning/design, and pedestrian/biking pilot projects and execute technical missions through-out the project duration; · manage, supervise and report project progress of works in a number of Chinese cities (e.g., Beijing, Kunming, Chongqing, Jinan, etc); · works with worldwide famous thinkers and scholars (e.g., Peter Calthorpe, Jan Gehl, Harvard/MIT professors, etc) to assist their practice in China; · works with transport planners to integrate transportation system and land use; · works with local design institutes, local transportation institutes, governmental functional departments, such as Planning, Transportation departments to facilitate high-quality implementation; · coordinates local workshops, meetings and site visits for international experts; · conducts in-house research, such as literature review, data analysis and paper writing. QUALIFICATIONS: To perform the job successfully, an individual will demonstrate the following competencies to perform the essential functions of this position. · Requires minimum master’s degree in urban planning/design, architecture, or landscape architecture; · 3 to 5 yrs work experience in the field of urban design and regulatory planning in China, familiar with project operations and the role of government; · Skills include project management, site analysis, free hand and computer graphics; · Must be articulate, self-motivated and strong in leadership; · Fluent in English and Putonghua; · Strong capability and willingness to learn, and be creative and open-minded; · Strong research capacity and paper writing ability in Chinese/English; · Willing to travel to project cities; · Educational background from abroad (especially Europe) is a plus; · Knowledge of environment, economy or energy is a plus; · Strong social responsibility and environmental consciousness. QUALIFICATIONS: · Requires minimum master’s degree in urban planning/design, architecture, or landscape architecture; · Skills include site analysis, free hand and computer graphics; webpage making is a plus · Must be articulate and self-motivated; · Fluent in English and Putonghua; · Strong capability and willingness to learn, and be creative and open-minded; · Strong writing ability in both English and Chinese; · Willing to travel to project cities; · Educational background from abroad (especially Europe) is a plus; · Knowledge of environment, economy or energy is a plus; · Strong social responsibility and environmental consciousness.
